The Safety Camera Partnership, which operates as part of a road safety campaign in the UK is considered one of the most profitable government business ventures of all time. They brought in more than £120 million in fines during the last year. According to Safe Speed statistics, 95% of accidents had nothing to do with speeding.

What the Safety Camera Partnership is responsible for is 5400 static camera sites in the UK and around 3500 mobile speed units, making it likely that UK motorists are going to get caught speeding at some point, intentionally speeding or during an urgent mission, but mostly to lack of concentrating on speed limits.

What this is causing are 2 million motorists that get caught and are earning points towards licence disqualifications since penalty points accumulate towards that result. Recently, more communities are reacting to the costs associated with maintaining the speed camera systems that go to support the Safety Camera Partnership.

Originally meant to decrease accidents and fatalities, many motorists are learning that it robotically issues tickets two weeks after speeding offences caught on the speed cameras, no matter how bad the offence. There are certain rights if you are facing speeding fines or disqualifications because there are a few flaws or loopholes in the system.

Some drivers have figured out ways to beat the camera system in multi-lane situations where you can switch lanes from the first camera to the second, and your speed will not be picked up accurately, for example.

Motorists in the UK find themselves faced with congestion charges, wheel clamping campaigns and parking violations that seem excessive to some motorists, and the speed camera frustration has been growing among motorists in the UK.

As more drivers find themselves facing disqualification with one more speeding fine and the penalty points associated, the pressure is mounting to do away with the Safety Camera Partnerships. Some localities are posting camera sites, and temporary camera sites on the Internet. Also, there are speed awareness courses being offered as an alternative to penalty points on some offences.

The Safety Camera Partnership is now looking at ways to incorporate driver education and awareness instead of relying solely on enforcement through the speed cameras. This is part of an effort to take some of the opinion of the revenue producing side of the Partnership away and substitute a concern for safety, instead.

Whether the public outcry against the Safety Camera Partnerships will be heard remains to be seen since some government officials think that it has definitely decreased traffic accidents and fatalities. There are still some officials that believe that the cameras do not lower accidents and fatalities and could actually cause more distractions and offences.

In the meanwhile, if you receive a Notice of Intended Prosecution and Court Summons, you need to be aware of the fines and 3 penalty points that come with admission. Since a 12 point accumulation results in disqualification, you may need to enlist the help of a solicitor, to keep from becoming disqualified to drive.

Like it or not, the Safety Camera Partnerships still exists in many localities, so the best thing is to be aware of the speed cameras and responsible in your driving.
