Speed cameras are undoubtedly any driver’s dreadful enemy, in view of the fact that they can effortlessly and accurately pick out your speed, the worse part is, it happens when you expect it the least. All these are blamed on the Gatso technology.

Gatso, a word derived from the name Gatsonides, a famous rally driver who invented the Gatsometer, is a technology used to measure speed. At present, Gatso technology is used all over the world not only for road safety and traffic accident precautions, but in sports as well. Swimming and rally are a few of the sports that use Gatso technology.

Road traffic is on the rise at a volatile rate. From Australia to Europe, from Korea to Kenya, economic developments are spawning escalating weight on road capacity, with an ensuing increase in injuries and deaths and a subsequent focusing on road wellbeing.

In Europe alone, an approximate estimate of 50,000 people is killed annually, in relation to traffic accidents, and an even higher statistics on injuries. Out of the accumulated statistics worldwide, approximately 30% of it is contributed by accidents due to speeding. As a government’s initiative, using enforcement technology, such as Gatso technology, red light violation cameras or advanced radar systems will have an instantaneous and encouraging effect on dropping the number of road fatalities by at least more than 15 per cent. So it is fitting to utter that road safety enforcement rules is a vital aspect in plummeting road traffic injuries.

Gatso technology was invented with a purpose of contributing measures in safety road traffic. Although a lot of criticizing, the technology is still being widely used by governments around the world.

Driver’s of all sorts, consider the Gatso technology or the Gatsometer(speed measuring device) as “the enemy”. Since the Gatsometer was first introduced to the market to monitor speeding vehicles, a far-fetched augmentation of traffic violations was recorded. This prompted the public to criticize the implementation, patronizing and use of the technology.

Nowadays, more and more individuals and businesses are developing ways to beat the speed-measuring device. Some driver’s are opting to beat the system with lo-tech methods by simply knowing where the cameras are located, and trying to keep the speed limits when passing through a speed-camera. Some are using global positioning devices (GPS) to identify speed cameras’ locations. An individual even tried to disguise his vehicle just get away with the traffic violation but ended up spending more than 2 months in jail and more than $5k fine.

Surely it is not for the levelheaded to envision that misfortunes will be eradicated overnight with the use of Gatsometers or red light violation cameras. In addition, the restraint of a road user’s behavior based upon the fright of punishment alone may not be enough to decipher the problem. Understanding in developed countries gives you an idea about minimizing road accidents, steering one’s thoughts to the fact that the actions to encourage behavioral transformation in road occupants is with certainty inclined by the height of enforcement by public authorities.
