safety camera partnership

Jun18

The Safety Camera Partnership, which operates as part of a road safety campaign in the UK is considered one of the most profitable government business ventures of all time. They brought in more than £120 million in fines during the last year. According to Safe Speed statistics, 95% of accidents had nothing to do with speeding.

What the Safety Camera Partnership is responsible for is 5400 static camera sites in the UK and around 3500 mobile speed units, making it likely that UK motorists are going to get caught speeding at some point, intentionally speeding or during an urgent mission, but mostly to lack of concentrating on speed limits.

What this is causing are 2 million motorists that get caught and are earning points towards licence disqualifications since penalty points accumulate towards that result. Recently, more communities are reacting to the costs associated with maintaining the speed camera systems that go to support the Safety Camera Partnership.

Originally meant to decrease accidents and fatalities, many motorists are learning that it robotically issues tickets two weeks after speeding offences caught on the speed cameras, no matter how bad the offence. There are certain rights if you are facing speeding fines or disqualifications because there are a few flaws or loopholes in the system.

Some drivers have figured out ways to beat the camera system in multi-lane situations where you can switch lanes from the first camera to the second, and your speed will not be picked up accurately, for example.

Motorists in the UK find themselves faced with congestion charges, wheel clamping campaigns and parking violations that seem excessive to some motorists, and the speed camera frustration has been growing among motorists in the UK.

As more drivers find themselves facing disqualification with one more speeding fine and the penalty points associated, the pressure is mounting to do away with the Safety Camera Partnerships. Some localities are posting camera sites, and temporary camera sites on the Internet. Also, there are speed awareness courses being offered as an alternative to penalty points on some offences.

The Safety Camera Partnership is now looking at ways to incorporate driver education and awareness instead of relying solely on enforcement through the speed cameras. This is part of an effort to take some of the opinion of the revenue producing side of the Partnership away and substitute a concern for safety, instead.

Whether the public outcry against the Safety Camera Partnerships will be heard remains to be seen since some government officials think that it has definitely decreased traffic accidents and fatalities. There are still some officials that believe that the cameras do not lower accidents and fatalities and could actually cause more distractions and offences.

In the meanwhile, if you receive a Notice of Intended Prosecution and Court Summons, you need to be aware of the fines and 3 penalty points that come with admission. Since a 12 point accumulation results in disqualification, you may need to enlist the help of a solicitor, to keep from becoming disqualified to drive.

Like it or not, the Safety Camera Partnerships still exists in many localities, so the best thing is to be aware of the speed cameras and responsible in your driving.

uk speed camera

With over 7,000 cameras on the roads of the UK today, and more to come, there is little or no chance that this particular addition to our roads is going to go away any time soon, so we will all continue to hear the horror stories of three tickets in one day, fines over 200 quid and the rest, but there are a few really good systems available to alert drivers to the locations of the UK speed camera. Here is a broad overview of what these systems can do and how they can help motorists.

UK speed cameras fall into two broad groups, static and mobile, with different types of cameras available in both areas - photo camera systems, radar/laser systems and video systems. Of the two groups, the static cameras are most easily found and avoided as their locations are readily available from numerous sites on the Internet and these locations are available for uploading to the majority if not all of the GPS navigation based systems available for purchase in every high street.

More affordable than other systems, they do still give a good deal of information to the user apart from the camera locations, such as speed limit in that area, your current speed, etc., allowing the driver to change their driving habits in that stretch of road. If used properly this will do away with a majority of camera traps and so avoid that ticket. UK speed camera mobile systems, however, are a totally different story.

Mobile systems are exactly that – able to move, so there is no specific location attached to the camera. However, with radar detectors and diffusers available, with these devices giving you (usually) both a visual and audio warning of camera systems, when detected by your device should, again, enable you to alter your driving while in range to escape that ticket. With that being said, government is currently trying to have all detectors banned from sales, or at the least forcing motorists to disable that ability from their units. It may yet be a while before being made law, but prepare for it now.

So, to avoid being caught by a UK speed camera system, go out and spend a couple of pounds on a good navigation system or detector. Main points to be aware of when buying is how often listed locations are updated, how you can update them, how easy (if you decide on a detector system) to disable that part of the software that runs the detector, ease of transfer to other vehicles and things like that. They are all pretty similar, but each person has their own tastes and so you really have to pick one that suits you best. Remember, driving at the limit is the cheapest way to avoid all these problems.

Speed Camera Detectors

May05

Speed camera detectors – we’ve all heard about them but what exactly are they, and what do they do? To answer this, we need to have a look at the types of detectors available. The systems fall into two broad categories – those that have onboard detectors and those that use pre-programmed information in order to warn of possible camera areas.

The systems with on board detection capabilities are just that – capable of detecting the use of radar and in increasing numbers laser, when used by camera systems to detect if a vehicle is speeding or behaving in a way contrary to the current road laws. These radar using camera systems are usually harder to become aware of as in a lot of cases they are more for the mobile hand held type of detection device, as opposed to fixed point systems. While these speed camera detectors are great, the flexibility of the government’s use of mobile units does tend to negate over time the efficiency of the speed camera detectors in warning against their presence.

The cheapest, and therefore most readily available everyday units, are those with pre-programmed locations for speeding cameras already plotted into the device’s navigation systems/detection unit. These systems are great for fixed point only camera units, and in most cases the locations can be updated on a weekly or even daily basis, to keep up to the minute information available to your detector unit. The other main draw for these units is that an increasing number of them are including things like accident blackspots, school zones and other high traffic pedestrian areas traditionally associated with loss of life and accidents.

In broad lines these are the two main types of detectors available right now, but with the new Road Safety Bill looking to ban speed camera detectors that detect or jam radar signals the possible options for personal detectors is growing slimmer.

Speed camera detectors are a great device to have in your vehicle, saving all of us from the current deluge of traffic tickets that have become a bane to most motorists on today’s roads, as they don’t allow for any minor infractions – all are treated the same, whether clocked at 2 miles an hour over the limit, or belting along at 80 in a thirty mph zone, all offenders are treated the same, and we all hate the thought of that envelope with your picture in it coming through the letter-box.

So what is in the future for speed camera detectors? It’s hard to say exactly what will happen when the new Road Safety Bill is introduced into law, but you can count on someone coming up with a (barely) legal way around this, so keep your eyes peeled for new detectors on the market with new technology.

Challenging the Photo Ticket

There are many ways of challenging a speeding ticket when you receive a notice in the mail. The system still has many shortcomings because many of the cameras are showing unreadable license plate numbers, the model of the car is not able to be identified or the operator of the vehicle is not shown clearly. The best thing to do if you receive one of these tickets is to ask to see records that back up their equipment.

The radar unit must be calibrated and this entails using tuning forks to do so on a daily basis. This often does not happen resulting in a radar unit that is not correctly calibrated. These devices are also to be inspected every so often (usually every 6 to 12 months) by an independent agency to make sure they are accurate. This also does not always happen.

The photo camera radar devices often produce false readings. This is true of regular police radar units as well. The speeding ticket you receive may not be as accurate as they would have you think. In one such case a motorist who received a speeding ticket challenged the accuracy of the camera. The type of camera used to photograph his license plate was only accurate up to 109 yards (100m). The photo of his tag was taken at 239 meters so the validity of the ticket was challenged.

Since the manufacturer of the camera only guarantees the accuracy to 25, 50 and 100 meters they are admitting at the distance his photo was taken it is not considered accurate. The case against him was dropped because it would have been too expensive to prosecute. The number of witnesses and experts that would have been called in by both sides would have far exceeded the amount of the speeding ticket.

Another thing to keep in mind is the equipment that is in use by many of the law enforcement agencies is loaned or leased to them. With a percentage of the speeding tickets paid using the camera going to the company that supplied the equipment to law enforcement, one of the things they depend on is the motorist just mailing in their fine. Basically this type of speeding ticket process is nothing more than a business masquerading under the premise of supposedly making the roads safer.

If you receive a photo radar speeding ticket it would behoove you to check and see if this type of ticket is even admissible in your state. There are several courts that have declared these speeding tickets as unconstitutional. The police departments and the city or town in which you receive the ticket is banking on you just sending in the fine and letting it go.

Another way of fighting this type of speeding ticket has been used by motorists. When the ticket is received in the mail, they simply do nothing. They do not send in payment or acknowledge the speeding ticket in any way. Why would this work, you ask? Because when you receive a regular speeding ticket issued by a police officer, you sign the bottom of this ticket as your promise to appear in court. When you receive a photo ticket, you do not sign anything.

There is no promise to appear and the only way you would have to is if a police officer serves you with a summons to appear. The odds of this may not be very good but if it does happen, all you have to say is you did not receive a ticket. Normally these tickets are sent regular post, not certified or registered mail, so they cannot be certain you received the ticket. Although this may not always work it has had a measure of success.

Regardless of what method you employ to fight a speeding ticket issued by photo radar, you have a chance of beating it because the accuracy is still being challenged. Avoiding a ticket is still the best way of ensuring that you do not receive one however, if you should there are methods that you may use to your advantage. The one you choose should be researched thoroughly to increase the odds that you will succeed in getting the speeding ticket dropped.

Speed Camera Locations

May03

One of the hardest things about driving in the UK is avoiding speeding tickets. In the past, it was easy to avoid the policemen who were the only authority on speeding, and who could use their speed guns to see how fast you were going. This allowed you to be able to avoid them using lots of different strategies. However, in the recent past, speed cameras have become more and more popular.

Speed cameras are cameras that clock your speed as you travel beneath them or alongside them. These are cameras that take both digital pictures and film pictures, and they do so in a way that the speed can be recognized and that the car itself can be recognized. When the pictures are then seen by the police, they can tell which cars have been speeding, and they can issue tickets to the registration holders of those cars. Therefore, it is almost impossible to avoid all of the speed cameras in the UK. But, knowing a little bit about the various speed camera locations might be something that you can do to help yourself avoid them whenever possible.

There are many different speed camera locations that you might need to think about so that you can avoid running into the speed cameras, and so that you can avoid needing to take too much time in order to avoid the areas where the cameras are. The first thing to do is to recognize the types of cameras so you can notice them.

The Static Gatso is a camera that takes pictures of the back of your automobile. IT is often found near bridges and on motorways. Sometimes it is hidden behind signs. The boxes are usually grey, but many have been painted in bright colours. These cameras take photographs as you drive past. There are also mini or mobile Gatsos which are hidden in mobile units like vans. These are quite difficult to see, and cannot be detected by radar units like the other gatsos can be.

Because the Gatsos take photographs of the back of your car, it is often hard to tell who is driving, and some drivers find that they are able to get out of the tickets in that manner. However, the Truvelo is a camera that takes a picture of the front of your automobile, which means that it can also take a picture of the driver. These cameras are often found on bridges and near roadways, and can be easily spotted. There is no flash that is omitted with these cameras, which makes them much harder to spot in  many locations.

Another type of camera is Digital Specs. These are cameras that take digital film, so they are almost always operational, unlike the other cameras that will run out of film an be nonoperational much of the time. These are the cameras that actually use point to point surveillance to see how fast you were going. They might take a picture at a various location, and they might be able to show that you were doing a different speed from one location to the other, simply by finding out how much time it took you to get form one place to another. This is one of the main ways that you are able to be caught speeding. These are usually found at the beginning of the motorways, and can also be found at various points between areas. This means that if you travel from one place to another on the motorway, you are going to need to stay at your current speed, or you will get caught by these cameras.

Lastly, there are the speed guns that are used by the police. These are often the most difficult to fight as well as to find in the first place, because they could be anywhere and they aren’t cameras but are actual speed guns. This means that a policeman can catch you going much faster and can give you a ticket.

It is often difficult to avoid speed cameras simply by knowing their location, as mobile units make it difficult to know where each of them might be.

Road Angel 2 - The Only System You Need

May03

This latest device from Black Spot Ltd. comes with all the features you would expect from an industry leader. In addition to keeping up with the times, the company has come together here to give you an exceptional product, Road Angel 2, with class leading features, for an unbeatable price – and that’s without looking at the safety features loaded to this program.

An impressive eight-hour battery life for this version means that you can take the unit with you wherever you go and mount it as you want it – bicycle, motorbike, or car. Without the power always having to be attached, it allows so much more freedom for the user. Couple this with the large backlit LCD screen (this also doubles as a visual warning detector – when close to a zone the screen changes back color from blue to red, letting you see that there’s something up ahead, which includes schools and accident blackspots too), giving you constant speed updates and audible as well as visual warnings of the locations of the over 7,000 camera zones in the U.K. Through its database, add in the fact that it also includes details on accident blackspots (again, locations updated through its database) and you have a device worth every penny spent on it.

With the fully integrated laser device detector for front and rear, the Road Angel 2 becomes even more of a ‘livelihood’ saver than ever before, giving you that little edge to get from 60 to 40 before they tag you, not while they’re writing the ticket for you. However, with the likelihood of laser detectors being banned, you still don’t lose out – a simple little software download allows you to disable the detector, but will still allow you to make use of its database for all fixed cameras, so you’ll have a fully legal system without losing out on the use of the device. This is a huge plus when lined up against the competition.

A nifty little feature is the ‘over speed’ warning – you set a speed limit for the system to watch for, and when you go over it, it tells you in a nice, clear voice. Very handy on those long boring motorway runs when speed can creep up without you noticing.

Attention to detail has also gone into the design of the Road Angel 2 – small enough to fit in your pocket or handbag if you don’t want it pinched, large enough screen to be seen clearly, without it looking like another DVD player in your car. Simple to attach to any vehicle, and easy to power up even without batteries using the cigarette lighter attachment.

Clearly showing that they’ve listened to their customers, and their needs, this device is here to stand the test of time, and to grow with your expanding needs as time goes on, with a product view to being around a long time. Any and all of these features make it a remarkable buy at the price point, now throw in the awesome pinpoint accuracy of its RescueLoc feature which means that you can tell rescue services exactly where you are at any time if you need to, and you’ve got an awesome device with safety features that many would charge you hundreds more for. So save yourself the bother of looking and go straight for the one that works best – Road Angel 2.

One of the biggest issues with hazard detection and law compliance devices is the fact that they give false alerts. This is especially true of radar devices. The Road Angel Plus uses a different system, which eliminates this type of false positive while still providing you with the protection that you need and the forewarning to maintain compliance with the law.

In addition to the hazards, which are clearly shown on the display you will also find the time, the compass direction as well as your speed. The alerts give you an instant determination on how close you are to the hazard. The Road Angel Plus has space for up to 50,000 locations including locations you can input to provide a customised and personalised list of the locations that you frequent.

The settings are easy to adjust and do not require a significant amount of attention. The database is updated regularly with any changes, which may have occurred.  There is a nominal subscription fee in order to maintain the updates to the system. Updates can be made through either your PC or through an optional phone modem feature.

A technical help desk as well as a rescueloc feature that allows you to get the help you need as well as let help know where you are with just a touch of a button. Just pushing a button will give your exact location allowing rescue assistance to find you quickly.

Compliance with the law when it comes to speeds and other hazards helps to keep you safe by preventing an accident. The Road Angel Plus can help warn you about radar, digital and laser traps both fixed and mobile. It also gives you an accurate speed reading, as well as providing you both visual and auditory warnings. It also helps by providing you with the distance between you and the hazard you are approaching.

The Road Angel plus is one of the smallest, easiest to read and accurate hazard detection devices on the market. It is exclusively for use in the UK as well as having been both designed and manufactured in the UK. You are also going to want a device that can notice all the latest as well as the greatest in technology including safety cameras such as the Gatso, TruVelo, SPECS, Speedcurb, DS2 and Watchman. In addition to temporary speed and safety traps, such as those created with mobile laser.

Using a hazard detection device such as the Road Angel plus with integrated technology and a screen, which is easy to read can help to create a safer driving experience. You have the capability to tell the hazard you are approaching, your speed, and direction with just a quick glance.

All the latest safety cameras can easily be detected and a warning signal sounded before you come to the hazard. This gives you the time to prepare if the hazardous section requires it and forewarns you of areas such as accident black spots, which have a high rate of accidents, occur due to hazards such as turns and blind spots in the road. The Road Angel Plus even comes with eight hours of battery power to help keep you connected.

UK Speed Cameras Fine Thousands

May03

The UK speeding camera that can be found in your local area is not the only one that has people upset. Throughout the country, these cameras are appearing more frequently. Many of the residents in the regions where they are located are facing costly fines in record numbers. The cameras are designed to be a way to ticket a motorist who passes an area going in excess of the speed limit. They are designed to effective in grabbing the identification of the vehicle and driver without the driver even realising their mistake. Many people are unhappy with the cameras as a whole and want them gone. Nevertheless, in the meantime, people are facing countless fines for driving too quickly where these cameras are located.

The UK government fines, and then collects, from thousands of drivers every day. The residents of the community are being charged very often with these minor driving offences. Individuals who drive just a few miles over the posted limit are fined, even if the motorway is completely empty aside from their presence. More so, when the UK speed camera issues a fine, it is a large one and some individuals face the addition of three points on their license. It only takes 12 points for the license to be banded and unable to be use by the driver again. More so, for those who are new drivers, under two years of experience, it only takes six points to cause them to lose their license.

Facts And Safety

Many representatives from the UK government state that the UK speed camera is effective at improving safety in the communities where they are located because they work to deter individuals from speeding through the motorway. There is evidence of some improvement in some locations, but the cameras are not doing this everywhere and more locations than not, do not see much improvement whatsoever.

A good example is the span of time from 1997 through 2000. During that time, motorist fines added up to £25 million. This is up from £13 million that it was prior to the installations of the UK speed camera. What is very interesting and disturbing is the fact that accidents during that time period did not drop, nor did they stay the same. In fact, they increased.

Some motorists go much farther in their claims against the UK speed camera. They believe that the cameras are meant only to increase the revenue rather than to actually aid in improving public safety. The Police Force is able to improve their yearend statistics. Instead of having poor records of revenue and more so law breakers caught, they instead have better numbers and more money coming in. Some state that it is far easier to arrest the motorist who was driving just a few miles over the limit than it is to arrest the professional burglar.

In The Hands Of The Driver

Those who are tired of the UK speed camera risk they run can do something about it. While lobbying with their government is an option to get the cameras removed once and for all, in the meantime, it becomes very important for the individuals to find a true solution to the problem at hand. Once you receive a ticket from a UK speed camera, it is necessary to know what to do next.

Some things that you may wish to learn include the following:

*What should you avoid saying?

*What should you do when you receive a fine in the mail from a speeding infringement?

*How should you react to a letter stating that you need to pay such a fine?

*What should be done if you have been summoned to magistrate’s court because of a speeding ticket?

*What do the Police have to do when they stop you for speeding?

There are many things that have to be accounted for here, and there are ways to learn these very in depth answers. Once an individual learns the ins and outs of the law regarding motorists, they can manipulate them to help them to get out of any legal situation they may be in, in many cases.

UK Speeding Camera

What should an individual do if they receive a fine from a UK speed camera? One of the first things to do is to contact the Police in writing and to request proof of the incident happening. This is one of the ways that individuals may be able to get out of the ticket. The goal here is to request proof of the incident, which is rarely possible to be produced. Yet, according to the country’s laws, it is necessary for the accusations to be proven before an individual should be fined for them.

There are many other ways that individuals can get out of paying for tickets and fines caused by UK speeding camera installations. The bottom line is that most people do not realize that there are ways to avoid these fines and that they can protect their license from receiving points. It is critical for the individuals to learn the best methods available for avoiding such costs.

The UK speed camera may not be something that individuals can remove on their own, but they are able to argue their case, if they know how to do so properly.

Speeding Fines - Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions

Many people end up having to deal with speeding fines at some point in their life. However, if you have never had to deal with fines before, you may have a few questions about them. There are many who are not totally sure how the fines work, how to get out of fines, and if they are able to contest any fines that they are given. Having good information behind you can be important if you are even fined for speeding. So, here is a look at some of the most commonly asked questions and the right answers to these questions. They’ll help you out if you ever end up with speeding fines of your own.

Question #1 - What Happens if I Can’t Remember Who Was Driving the Vehicle?

First of all, you may be wondering what will happen if you can’t remember who was driving the vehicle. You may get that Notice of Intended Prosecution in the mail, and if you weren’t actually pulled over in person, you may not remember who was driving. Well, it is important that you understand the law in this situation. According to the law, if you are the keeper of the vehicle, you must know who is driving it all the time. If you are not able to name the driver, this is another offense which can get another penalty, worse than speeding fines. Do all that you can to figure out who was driving. Take a look at your receipts, bills, and anything else you have handy to figure out who that was driving that day. In some cases if you were caught on camera, you may be able to see those photos for a good look as well.

If it comes to the point where you still are not sure who was driving that car at the time, if you are able to show that you are not being negligent or that you are not trying to hold back anything, you may actually have a case. You may have to go to court and let them know why you can’t identify who was driving the vehicle. There have been cases where a car was taken and driven without permission, and this may keep you from getting the fine. However, it is best to make sure you do figure out who was driving if it is at all possible.

Question #2 - What Penalty Can I Get for Going 20+ Over the Speed Limit?

If you are being summoned to court for speeding and you were going more than 20 mph over the speed limit, you may be wondering what speeding fines and other penalties you are going to get. Well, each case is usually treated as an individual case if you end up in court. There are sentencing guidelines though that are often used. Since you were going fast, the penalty may be higher than for someone only going 10 miles over. When considering your speeding fines and points against you, usually the magistrate will consider whether you are able to pay the fine and whether or not you have had other motor violations against you in the past. The maximum fine could be 2500 pounds if you were on a motorway speeding, and you could get from 3-6 points. In some cases you could even lose your driving privileges as well.

Question #3 - What Can Be Done if I Don’t Think I Was Speeding?

If you don’t believe that you were speeding at the time, then you probably want to know if there is something that you can do to avoid paying speeding fines when you don’t think you were breaking the law. You can actually challenge the speeding notice that you are given. Usually you will end up having to go to court, where you will give a not guilty plea. Of course you will have to prove that you weren’t speeding. There should be some circumstance or a method malfunction that would show why your vehicle was thought to be breaking the speed limit.

Quite a few drivers have been able to appeal their speeding fines and get them wiped out. Sometimes the evidence may have been wrong or there may have been a technical problem. Sometimes the police will actually drop the speeding prosecution and just let you go without having to pay the fine. If you do decide that you want to contest any charges like this, it is best to go with a good lawyer to help you out to ensure you adequately defend your case and try to avoid those speeding fines.

Question #4 - Is There a Way to Dispute Speeding Fines without Going to Court?

In some cases you may not want to go to court to try to dispute those speeding fines. So, you may be wondering if there is some other way that you can dispute them. Well, sometimes you may be able to. If you are not required to go to court and you want to dispute your speeding fine, in some cases you may be able to write a letter explaining the situation. In some cases this will work and they may be willing to drop that fine. However, if they are unable to and you can’t informally dispute the ticket, then you may have to go ahead and take your dispute to court. Only choose this route if you are sure you have a good defense, since it can end up more expensive if you are still found guilty of the offense.
